[UNVRS] The Perfect Storm Set To Revolutionise Clubbing In Ibiza.

The anticipation is palpable as a new era is about to dawn in Ibiza. The island, long been the cradle of electronic civilisation, is ready to reinvent itself this season with the opening of a state-of-the-art hyperclub designed to boldly go where no club has gone before. So, what can we expect this summer at UNVRS? While the plans have been closely guarded, some clues to its capabilities have been revealed recently with the announcement of the Carl Cox and Eric Prydz residencies.
The marketing promo for the much anticipated Carl Cox residency on Sundays, heralded a “new dimension in sound”, which hints at the latest technology in 3D sound innovation. The Eric Prydz marketing introduces us to a futuristic world of holograms, the metaverse, interactive clubbing and “next-generation technology”. Also contained in the Prydz promo video is a circular sphere, offering a 360-degree immersive experience. This means that club-goers will be surrounded by visuals and sound from all directions, creating a truly immersive and unique experience. This ties in with the iconic Privilege Dome, which remains at UNVRS, and its design will undoubtedly be utilised to dazzling effect inside the club.
Star Wars creator George Lucas stated that sound is fifty per cent of the theatre experience. Let’s face it: Modern clubbing is all about the experience, not just the music, as it used to be in Ibiza. Romain Pissenem, the creative director of UNVRS, designed Hi as a digital theatre nearly 10 years ago. Since then, the Frenchman, via his Highscream production company based in London, has produced shows worldwide, culminating in the Paris Olympics last year. UNVRS will allow him to incorporate his experience at the cutting edge of visual and sound innovation into the club. Lest we forget, the Pissenem Brothers planted the Hologram seeds at HI when Prydz went against the grain and signed with the fledging club in 2017.
When we look at what is out there in the world of sound innovation, the whole area of 3D Spatial Sound leaps into the hyper club. Spatial Sound produces a sense of space beyond conventional stereo, allowing sound engineers to pinpoint where a sound can be directed, whether above, below, or 360 degrees around the clubber. This 3rd dimension in sound enables a sense of precise location and movement. The traditional stereo sound lets us hear things from one dimension, from the front, left, and right, via two channels. Spatial sound can upgrade that experience with directional audio from up to 128 channels that can be directed to 34 individual speakers simultaneously. This exciting development or something similar could be the “ new dimension of sound” that Carl Cox refers to.

The Perfect Storm
The Eric Prydz promo video hints at a world of immersive visual experiences at UNVRS. Prydz, a vastly experienced and much-respected artist in electronic music, was unusually giddy when stating that Hologram at UNVRS would be “Our most technically advanced show ever attempted, an evolution of the 2019 Holosphere, superior in every aspect from size to next-generation technology.”
That technology will likely involve the Metaverse, a virtual reality space where users can interact with a computer-generated environment and other users. This concept could be integrated into the club experience, using AI, avatars, cryptocurrency, and real-time interactions to create a unique and captivating environment that mixes the real world with digitally created content. This state-of-the-art technology is designed to captivate audiences, especially those raised in the Instagram generation.
If the vision behind UNVRS is executed, it will be a game-changer for the industry and revolutionise club culture. The Pissenem Brothers, masters of digital production, were presented with a blank canvas to design and build the ultimate club experience. Their expertise and innovative approach will be instrumental in setting the trends when UNVRS opens this summer.
It now makes sense why all the big DJ names want to work with them, as they will be at the forefront of the industry when UNVRS opens. A perfect storm is about to hit Ibiza.
