Only Room for One Overpriced DJ at Pacha

The Island of Ibiza is buzzing at present, amid much speculation and gossip about new dates and big changes on the Islands Clubbing circuit for 2013. After the seismic departure of Danny Whittle, Pacha owner, Ricardo Urgell, has wasted no time in cleaning out his Club of expensive DJ’s and costly overheads. As we near the anniversary of the announcement by Swedish House Mafia, in November 2011, that they were to leave Pacha, reportabley because they were asking for too much money, similar financial circumstances has resulted in the high profile name of, DJ Tiesto, joining the now illustrious, causality list at the club. Pacha already has one highly paid DJ on its books, David Guetta, and it seems it is not willing to have another. The era of booking highly paid DJ’s, pioneered by Danny Whittle, may be soon coming to an end at Pacha, as the owner plans to go back to the original roots of the club. There are at least, two other nights expected to depart also.

The blog will soon publish a piece about future plans at Pacha and an insight into their new direction. For now, the rumour that Tiesto may be leaving Pacha, after only one moderately successful season, will no doubt be the hot topic of conversation on the Island and beyond. Ushuaia are said to be the only Club interested in signing the Dutch star, whose transition from a world famous Trance DJ to commercial house button pusher, has not been as successful as he had hoped. Problem now for Tiesto, is that he maybe overpriced for the style of music he is playing, and for clubs to book him, he will have to drop his rates. The catch 22 of that situation, is that it may also devalue his reputation.
