The Severed Arm of Ibiza. Urban Myth or True Story.

Kirk writes the following account of the incident in his book ”The front passenger, a male in his late twenties, extends his tattooed arm through the open window, outstretched his fingers to feel the balmy night air. Bliss – but then his upper arm meets the thin metal bar of the fence which frames the roundabout, effectively slicing through his soft flesh like a cheese wire. His limb detaches from his body, leaving only a few inches of flesh flapping from his shoulder. Upon seeing this, he immediately passes out from the pain and shock. From the back seat the girls, swapping tongues in a druggy girly kiss, shriek at being sprayed with what they thought were droplets of water from their mischievous front seat passenger. Except it isn’t water; it’s blood, which is sprayed rhythmically from his severed shoulder”

The grizzly incident bears a resemblance to a scene from the movie Final Destination. After the police alerted its occupants to the full effects of the accident, screams of horror and shock soon engulfed the car as the blood-splattered girls in the rear seat realised the reality of what had just happened. As with most drug-related accidents in Ibiza, there was no happy ending to the story, and Kirk concludes the story by adding, “Both the amphetamine amputee and his arm were airlifted to Palma, Mallorca, to be reunited. Sadly, the operation wasn’t successful. The driver was charged with possession of cocaine, ecstasy, drink driving, failing to report an accident and driving a car which had no tax or insurance. He received a custodial sentence but got off lightly compared to his mate in the passenger seat, who, in addition to losing his right arm, had to find €178,000 for the helicopter ride and treatment as he didn’t have health or travel insurance”
