The long-awaited direct flight connection between the United States and Ibiza will make its historic maiden voyage on May 31, next year. United Airlines has just announced that it will fly direct from Newark Airport in New York to the Mediterranean island of Ibiza four times a week. Nonstop United Flight UA 549 will depart Newark at 23.15 and arrive in Ibiza the following afternoon at 13.15.

The flight is scheduled to take 8 hours eastbound and 8 hours and 50 minutes westbound on the return, departing Ibiza at 15.15. Prices start at $1400 return for economy and $3800 for business class. The seasonal summer service operates from May 31, 2027 until October 7.

The Newark to Ibiza flight marks the first-ever direct flight connection between America and Ibiza. Historically, American visitors to Ibiza had to book one-stop tickets connecting through major European airports such as London, Barcelona, and Madrid. The party Jet has now arrived, offering American tourists unprecedented access to smaller European airports with its 5,400-mile range.

United Airlines is making aviation history with this route as it’s the first and only US carrier to offer a nonstop flight directly to the island. The route is only possible thanks to the introduction of the new state-of-the-art Airbus A321XLR jet. Until its introduction, airlines could only fly large wide-body jets across the Atlantic, which were too big to operate profitably between the US and the small party island of Ibiza. The long-range, fuel-efficient single-aisle 321XLR carries fewer passengers while making the route profitable for the first time.

The aircraft is optimised for premium long-haul luxury, with 150 seats, 87 of which are economy. Business class offers 20 suites containing pods that convert into beds, featuring sliding privacy doors and 19-inch 4K entertainment systems. There are 12 Premium Plus seats and 30 Economy Plus seats, which eliminate the dreaded middle seat, now replaced with a hard cocktail table. Self-serve, walk-up snack bars and Starlink Wi-Fi are included as standard, showcasing the aircraft’s commitment to comfort and innovation that will appeal to travel enthusiasts and media outlets.

Aviation History

Every seat is equipped with a 4K OLED touchscreen display and integrated Bluetooth, allowing passengers to pair their wireless devices seamlessly. The plane features custom LED mood lighting designed to mitigate jet lag and oversized overhead bins that offer 60% more luggage space.

The most exciting part of the Newark-to-Ibiza route is the Airbus A321XLR, which is revolutionising how passengers fly across the Atlantic. Instead of flying on big, crowded jumbo jets, American partygoers to Ibiza can now board light, single-aisle planes configured for ultra-premium comfort, which aligns with the island’s current tourism direction toward the luxury market.
