Techno General Sven Vath Answers Amnesias Call.

The pioneering German Techno DJ Sven Vath is to return to his spiritual home, Amnesia, after a five-year break. In 2018, following an 18-year Cocoon residency, Sven sensationally departed Amnesia for an ill-judged move to Pacha, which lasted just one season before moving to a limited residency at Akasha with separate brands, Catharsis and TRANCE. The return of the iconic Cocoon party to Amnesia will be a welcome morale booster for the under-sieged club on the ropes after the departure of several high profile parties to Ushuaia Entertainment, owners of UNVRS, HI and Ushuaia.
Amnesia deserves much credit for pulling together the best possible calendar it could this season, considering the hostile environment in which it currently finds itself. They say necessity is the mother of invention, and the UNVRS challenge seems to have awakened a new force at the old club. Like Rocky Balboa, they have taken the hits but remain in the fight and are still punching. It has to be encouraging for all at the club to witness Sven Vath and his battle-hardened panzer troops storm over the hill in their hour of need. Not to put too fine a point on it, but the return of Cocoon to Amnesia is one of those magical Ibiza moments rarely seen on the island anymore.
The timing of this one-off event is also significant as rumours on the island suggested that the UNVRS Death Star was aiming to be fully operational on the weekend of May 16. The Sven Vath date seemed a little random when it was first announced, but if UNVRS were thinking of opening that weekend, having Cocoon playing across the road would rain on their parade. I would love to see what The Pissenem Brothers have done with the old Privilege Club, but given a choice of UNVRS or Amnesia that weekend, my heart would be drawn to Cocoon. It’s a clever tactical move by Amnesia if UNVRS decided to open that same weekend and is a real marker of intent.
It’s a challenge I don’t think UNVRS can afford to walk away from. It’s a fine example of Guerilla warfare, a point the blog referred to previously, and with this move, Amnesia has stolen a march on The Empire. Suppose Amnesia can rally the local crowd on an island famed for its buccaneering corsairs. In that case, it has a fighting chance of competing against the financial and political might of Ushuaia Entertainment, which continues to divide opinion in Ibiza. One thing for sure is that this Ibiza summer will be one for the history books, and I look forward to reporting on it. They say fortune favours the brave and Amnesia have demonstrated that proverb with an adventurous and leftfield programme of events this season.

In this instance, I am reminded of Rocky Balboa’s famous quote: “It ain’t about how hard you hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.” This attitude encapsulates resilience and determination, highlighting the importance of enduring hardship and never giving up. Amnesia will require a lot of this mindset, along with the support of those on the island and beyond who value substance over style—most importantly, the authentic connection music has to the dancefloor. This summer, which pill will you be taking in Ibiza: the red or the blue?
