A recent shake up of the music program at Hi, where Glitterbox has been moved to Sundays amid other rumoured changes, has opened an inviting door for the islands highest paid DJ, David Guetta, to transfer to the fashionable Ibiza club which has built up a formidable reputation after just two seasons. While Hi has been in the ascendancy, the opposite can be said of Pacha, which has had a difficult first season under its new corporate ownership. Already there are rumours of big changes at Pacha with nearly 50% of its current program destined for the recycling bin. To date, news of a possible David Guetta move from Pacha to Hi, has gone straight in with a Bullet, to Number 1 on the Ibiza Rumour Charts for 2019. Guetta is a big name in Ibiza and his star status is much loved by the local Spanish community. The ultimate professional, his connection with the island goes back to the nineties when he worked as a promoter for Daft Punk.

His first job at Pacha in 2008 earned him the princely sum of €500 and he was instrumental in creating the high spending VIP culture at the club when he was riding high in the charts producing hit after hit, making the FMIF party the hottest ticket in town with a €80 regularly sold out entry fee. However, the “beautiful” relationship between Pacha and Guetta in the latter years of the Urgell families tenure came under pressure, with talk that Privilege had made a move to sign the Frenchman in 2013. That move failed to materialise as Pacha upped their bid to retain his services, which did not go down too well with its owner Ricardo Urgell, who vented his frustration by publicly disclosing Guetta’s €3.2million salary in an interview with local newspaper Dario de Ibiza in 2015, during a turbulent period at the venue, which saw it loose the management skills of Danny Whittle

In 2016 Guetta was making fewer appearances at Pacha, as Robin Schulz, stood in for him on a number of occasions. Money it seemed was still an issue, FMIF, was not packing them in like it used to and Solomun had arrived on the scene, demanding a salary not too far off Guetta’s.  After a difficult first season, it’s not surprising that the Pacha bean counters are questioning the sustainability of financing two Kings ransomes in salary payments, so the timing looks right for Guetta to make his move and the ideal club for him right now is Hi, which can absorb his fees and afford him the attention he deserves – a marriage made in EDM heaven. It is expected that Guetta will retain his Thursday night slot at Hi with Tale Of Us moving to another day on the Hi schedual for 2019. With reports that Guetta is to marry his 24-year-old girlfriend Jessica Ledonen, it looks like 2019 will be a year of new and lasting relationships for the popular Frenchman. Odds on his ex wife Cathy Guetta retaining her Monday night slot at Hi have lengthened into double figures.
