A noble drive to establish a creative literary group in Ibiza moved a step closer this weekend, with the first gathering of Ibiza Quills at the well know bookshop Libro Azul in Santa Gertrudis. Respected island artists and writers such as Jerome Ferrier, Martin Davies, and Charlotte Mensforth were in attendance to help support the project which aims to nurture creativity in island literature, art and poetry. The project is the brainchild of Sara Kult partner of leading Balearic music producer Mark Barrott who was also in attendance along with Pete Gooding of Cafe Mambo fame.

The DannyKay blog is also proud to be associated with Ibiza Quills in an advisory capacity to help promote the message that Ibiza artistically, is about more than just dance music. There are many artists, sculptures and writers living on the island and unfortunately their work sometimes gets unnoticed due to the loud exposure that the music industry enjoys. Ibiza Quills aims to change that perception and will work to ensure that the public can express their love for the island through creative writing and art.

Ibiza Quills is an open forum that invites you to put “Quill to paper” and submit a short Ibiza related story (2500 words), poem (250 words) or image (black & white) for inclusion in a book that it will publish every year. Membership to the literary group is a nominal administration fee of €12 and this will provide access to a bespoke range of Ibiza art and writings. Founder of the group Sara Kult described Ibiza Quills as “slow food for the mind… where creativity and ideas flow” and the German born writer deserves much credit for her inspiration and work in getting the project to bloom on the islands fertile artistic landscape. Full details on how to support Ibiza Quills and submit your work can be found on its website.
