Local Unions representing Airport Security Staff at Ibiza Airport have confirmed that they will go on an indefinite strike from next Friday July 20.  Talks between Unions and employers to avert the industrial action broke down this week, leading to the prospect of severe delays for passengers arriving and departing Ibiza Airport. Last year, Ibiza Airport which is managed by AENA, was hours away from been forced to shut down, after a similar strike by cleaners left vast amounts of rubbish piled around terminal buildings. A last minute agreement was reached to avert the closure. In Spain, employment disagreements go right down to the wire, as Mexican standoffs are employed by both sides. With Mercury also going into retrograde at the same time, travel chaos is expected for the latter stages of July, so if possible avoid travel into Ibiza Airport from the 20th onwards, or if unavoidable, have suitable travel insurance in place to cover any problems.
