Ibiza Council To Start Airport Bus Services In March 2024

The local Ibiza council has confirmed that it will open seasonal public transport services from the airport to three main resorts in time for the Easter Festivities. Commencing on March 24 three direct routes will operate between Ibiza Airport, Sant Antonio and Santa Eularia servicing all stops in between. The three routes are the L9 Sant Antonio/Sant Josep/Airport, L24 Cala Nova/Es Canar/Santa Eularia/Airport and the L10E express service Ibiza town/Airport.

Traditionally, these routes only operated between June and September. However, this year, the public transport season will open early to cater to the increased influx of tourists to the island before and after the Easter Holidays. In the past, tourists and businesses have complained about the lack of taxi services at the beginning of the season. By opening the public transport season early, it is hoped that these problems will be alleviated, especially with a growing number of hotels and clubs opening early this year.

However, In typical Ibiza style, the local government could not confirm if these services would be maintained for April and May. Instead, they stated that the agreement between the bus companies and the council would continue on the “assumption” that the demand for their services after Easter would be maintained.

Maybe, maybe not.

Essentially, that means if the routes are not profitable the bus operators will close them down with minimal notice and revert to their traditional June/September schedules. A classic Ibiza example of giving in one hand and taking in another.
