Ibiza Frills, Thrills & Head Scarfs.

The temperatures are soaring as standard on the island, but that is the only normal thing about this August! The very peak of the summer season usually sees tourists in their hoards, with the majority raring to rave. With many flights cancelled, all of the clubs shut and dancing deemed ‘illegal’, one would be forgiven for assuming that the party was over for Ibiza 2020… but never underestimate this hedonists haven!

Hello, I’m Laura, and alongside handmaking HATHOR Hedonistic Headgear, embellished eyewear and alternative accessories; which are stocked in many of the island’s boutiques and worn by Ibiza regulars such as Fatboy Slim, Cara Delivignge, Nervo and Lovely Laura… I’m very excited to be the Ibiza fashion reporter for Danny Kay Ibiza. So let’s get down to the very serious business of fun! If the islanders can’t party by land, then they shall shimmy by sea! Chartering a private boat is the way to get your thrills and dance as the island’s rave God Bes intended this season.

Whether you want to look mega hot on a mega yacht, set sail to Formentera in boho-chic style or spend a day as a S’Espalmador speedboat raver; here’s what the white islanders are wearing for nautical naughtiness this summer…

FRILLS
Whimsical in the wind whilst out on the water, and a seriously chic style statement to disembark for Ses Illetes cocktail sipping; flouncy frills are essential on Ibiza swimwear this August!

Balearic boho/free spirited vibes; frilly bikinis and one pieces are both fun to dance in whilst also looking far more chic and ‘yachtie’ than a barely there bikini.

As seen on Ibiza residents Lydia Kimmerling, Sophie Richardson and Katie Dewis on such  idyllic Ibiza boat days when only frills will do.

Happiness Explorer Lydia says:
‘Swimwear and sunglasses are essential everyday items in Ibiza. I like to invest in pieces that I feel really special in, and that are good quality as they’re going to get a lot of use!’

Think sequins, neon lycra and upcycled military hats… it’s like Pikes-on-Sea!

THRILLS

Whether a boat day is booked to celebrate upcoming (albeit probably delayed) nuptials, a birthday or just celebrating being out of lockdown(!)…although the official party boats are cancelled this summer, many are taking to the waves for the ultimate day party with small groups of friends, armed with a dress up box filled with treasures reminiscent of vintage DC10 Monday attire. Think sequins, neon lycra and upcycled military hats… it’s like Pikes-on-Sea!

Islander Alicia Orre uses practical moon magic and astrology to help people’s life transition. Celebrating life to the full, she wears a silver, embellished hat by Hathor.
Alicia says: ‘Your style should reflect your vibe, and in Ibiza I feel carefree, chic and FUN!’

‘Nothing makes me happier than seeing all fashions mixed together, people in swimwear and others in sequins from the night before … or maybe not …. maybe they are just wearing exactly what they wanted to. That’s the ibicenco magic YOU wear exactly what you want

WRAP IT UP

Headscarves are the ultimate in Balearic boating chic this summer!
Much more than a practical accessory to keep those windswept locks at bay, think oversized with loud patterns, worn as big and random as you dare. Chic, statement, hedonistic headwear.

Match your headscarf to your swimwear as seen in this behind the scenes snap from Mona Swims Ibiza shoot:

Islander, Deafened Decorum Designer and Make up Artist Natalie Wood gives us a masterclass in this effortlessly cool style statement on her Balearic birthday boat trip earlier this month

 Natalie says:
‘Nothing makes me happier than seeing all fashions mixed together, people in swimwear and others in sequins from the night before … or maybe not …. maybe they are just wearing exactly what they wanted to. That’s the ibicenco magic YOU wear exactly what you want to’

Patterned head scarves are not all about bright colours, this look is equally chic and striking in black and white… here’s some monochrome magic from moi:

2020 is such strange times for us all; but for those that are able to visit the isla blanca I promise you it is well worth the fortnight quarantine! Ibiza is absolutely beautiful right now…and although there is a very different pace – with Pikes infamous parties like Melon Bomb transformed into a poolside Mellow Bomb and Fatboy Slim’s “Eat Sleep Stay in your Seat’ sets at Ibiza Rocks in order to adhere to restrictions… it is still the magical island we all love.
If you’re coming out and hoping to party, pack your frilly swimwear and headscarf and I hope to see you dancing on the deck of a private boat bobbing about in the crystal clear azure waters of the med!
ALL ABOARD! 🙂
