Franky Rizardo |
Last nights Defected party at troubled club Booom, was forced to abandon the event at 5am, after claims that a fire extinguisher was let off close to the DJ booth as Franky Rizardo was playing his set. Thankfully nobody was hurt and security staff at the club did an excellent job ensuring guests were evacuated safely. After the dust had settled, Defected Records apologised for the incident and issued this statement “shortly after 05.00 a fire extinguisher was let off inside the building, which left the club with no option other than to close early. The extinguisher, which contained the fire extinguishing powder, mono-ammonium phosphate, was fired from a balcony directly at the DJ booth, covering the DJs and all the technical equipment. The club was evacuated and the crowd waited patiently for an hour before being told we were unable to continue.”
The troubled history of Booom is well documented on this blog and last nights incident at one of its premier parties, is another blow that the club could well do without. Earlier reports that a noxious gas was used were discounted by both Booom and Defected and according to people present at the event, it was a foul smelling smoke but nothing harmful. In the interests of safety the club was evacuated. The culprit was apprehended by security on the night.
