Danny Whittle, who has taken up more Ibiza cyberspace than the DJ’s he represents in recent months, will join the new Eden Nightclub, which will re-open to schedule on Thursday, June 27th next. In a statement released in the last hour, Danny said “I’m pleased to take on the challenge of reinventing Eden, the future of Ibiza and giving something to the younger clubbers who visit. Sant Antoni is so important to the island, that’s why we need to do this right again”. The news comes as a big surprise in Ibiza, as Mr Whittle is presently heavily involved with Bomba which only started work to refurbish its premises this week after an enforced delay. The club faces a race against time to open by the end of June. At Eden, Whittles management company, IBZ Entertainment, will assist with the line-ups and guide the club’s musical direction to create a successful, music-focused, clubbing experience. The club is owned by Dutch Entrepreneur Michael Van De Kuit, who the blog interviewed last week about his plans for Eden, which had been on the market with a €12 million asking price. Danny Whittle will be joined by his old partner at Pacha, Mark Netto, who will assist with the music programs and DJ’s. Eden has four vacant nights available and it will be Whittle’s job to fill them.
In another surprise and related development, Erick Morillo, a long time associate of Danny Whittle, announced on Twitter that he is to take an indefinite break from music. His tweet earlier today, to over 230,000 followers read “The time has come to take a break and refocus my attention on my health and well-being. Thank you to my fans for your enduring love and Support!” Bomba had announced that Morillo would join the club this season but today’s personal statement casts doubt on his presence in Ibiza this summer. It’s reminiscent of Danny Tenaglias famous Facebook statement, where he also announced a brief retirement from his career. Erick Morillo was escorted off the stage at a party he did in Massachusetts last week but we do hope it’s just a short term holiday. The blog will update on these stories as relevant news comes to hand. For now Ibiza 2013, has been one of the most talked about seasons ever and it will have clubbers from all over the world spoilt for choice with new clubs and parties.
