Maceo Plex For Pacha Ibiza?

One of the most respected and talented DJ’s at present, Eric Estornel, aka Maceo Plex & Maetrix, is rumoured for a residency at the classic Ibicenco club Pacha, for Ibiza 2016. The Cuban born DJ and tech producer, whose distinctive base sound defined the Balearic summer of 2014 with remixes of Crossfade, Conjour Baleria and Heads Above was last year loosely connected to the Hyte party at Amnesia. Maceo was having a quiet season at Amnesia until he controversially dropped the excellent Four Tet remix of Opus to a rather unsuspecting crowd at the clubs famous Closing party. The incident created a healthy debate on the current direction and state of electronic dance music.

Last season Pacha were rumoured to have shown an interest in Plex, but arch rival Amnesia was successful in the race to secure his services. Commitment to Pacha’s 20 week residency contract may have been a reason why Maceo preferred to go with the lighter schedule at Amnesia where he made only a handful of appearances due to busy commitments elsewhere. Word around the Ibiza campfires after the closing parties, was that Pacha wanted to sign an underground party to balance their EDM output, as they already had Insane and Solomun working quiet well for them. With Aoki rumoured to have departed, David Guetta, Martin Solveig and the surprise hit of last year, Bob Sinclar, have all confirmed their residencies at Pacha for Ibiza 2016.

That leaves only Monday and Sunday yet to be confirmed. Flower Power is almost certain to return, as is Solomun on Sundays, but interestingly there is little talk about Solomun, which would raise eyebrow’s slightly. It would make Amnesia’s season to poach him and the Pacha door may not be firmly shut there. What Pacha could do is move the successful Flower Power party to Mondays, a night they have always had problems with in the past and leave Tuesdays open for its new underground party. If the Maceo rumour is true, then a mid week slot like Tuesdays may work and his classy style would certainly fit in at Pacha. If Pacha can sign Maceo into a weekly Ibiza residency, it would be regarded as one of the big moves of the season.
