We had four nominations for this years award and they were Carl Cox, Sven Vath, Marco Carola and DC10 Resident, Jamie Jones. It was great to see Sven back on point and as popular as ever this year at Cocoon and his appearance at Pacha alongside Solomun, was one of the highlights of the season. Jamie Jones packed out DC10 on a regular basis and he continues to be the undisputed King of the underground. But the artist who the award is going to this year, is the legendary, Carl Cox, a loyal and eternal friend of Space and Ibiza who has been an ambassador for the island for well over two decades now. He was there when the famous Space terrace was born and he will lead the Space funeral cortege on its final journey next season.
During his iconic 15 year residency at Space, Coxy has rarely put a foot wrong. A smiling face and personality that warmed the room alongside his crafted technique of music selection and timing. Ibiza brought out the best in Cox and he always represented the antithesis of industry DJ’s like Hardwell and Tiesto. It was refreshing to witness the crowds that flocked to Space and Cox on Tuesdays this season, while across the road at Ushuaia, the Hardwell party was hardly ever full. His loyality to Pepe Rosello, the man who first recognised and nurtured his talent on the island, was admirable and reflects the integrity of the man. There are DJ’s in the industry that would gladly have taken the money and signed a contract with the new owners, many of them can be found in the Top 10 DJ Chart of DJMag.
Therefore in recognition of his 2015 penultimate season at Space, it gives me great pleasure to give my Best Ibiza DJ Award to the legend that is Carl Cox. Oh Yes Oh Yes!!
