The Reason Why Carl Cox Is Playing UNVRS Ibiza 2025.

In a knockout punch that Oleksandr Usyk would be proud of, Ushuaia Entertainment delivered a right hook of ferocious power this week when it revealed that Carl Cox would be resident at its new Ibiza club [UNVRS]. The punch’s technique, timing and accuracy exploited the weakness of its main competitor, Amnesia, on the ropes from a culmination of jabs it received from the recent departure of Elrow, Jamie Jones and Joseph Caprati. The news of Cox’s Sunday residency at [UNVRS] also shadows every other club announcement on the island. It sets up an eagerly anticipated residency as the island welcomes back its King in exile, Carl Cox.

The first inkling that Cox was considering a residency at [UNVRS] came last season when the British DJ failed to materialise at the Pepe Rosello-sponsored Space party at Eden. That party was surgically removed from the island’s clubbing landscape when the Matutes Group, which partners with Yann Pissenems The Night League via its Ushuaia Entertainment company, won a long-running legal battle over ownership rights to the famous Space Ibiza trademark. Cox would have watched closely as the truth finally came to light, ending a bitter ten-year feud between the Matutes Group and Pepe Rosello, a long-time friend of Carl Cox.
By default, Cox was caught up in the drama as an iconic and much-loved venue was lost during a dark period in the island’s clubbing history. He displayed admirable loyalty to Pepe Rosello by not wanting to appear at Hi Ibiza, built on the hallowed ground of his beloved club, Space. Not all facts were known to Cox at the time. In the years that followed, Cox was linked to a series of stories published in the local and international press that stated Space Ibiza would be returning to the island under the management of Pepe Rosello. After a legal ruling in a Valencian court revealed that Pepe Rosello had been bluffing regarding his claim to the Space ownership rights, Cox dodged a bullet by disassociating himself from the Space Ibiza party at Eden.
The court ruling changed everything for Cox. Time reveals all, and armed with both sides of the story, Cox made the only logical move by signing with UNVRS. In the aftermath of the Space saga, he could not trust the agendas at play in Amnesia. During the nine years Cox was without a residency on the island, Yann Pissenem quietly courted him using all his gallic charm to convince Cox to play a one-off show at Ushuaia in 2019. Pissenem had a foot inside the British DJ’s door with that booking at Ushuaia, and people who know Yann will testify that it’s very hard to say no to the affable Frenchman. The game changed when Yann presented the top-secret UNVRS plans to Cox along with the DJs that were defecting from Amnesia to UNVRS.
Something special

In Ibiza, Cox is revered. Unlike some of those he played with on the island in the 90s, Cox never sold out, and this is why clubbers of a certain vintage respect him so much. The online abuse he is currently receiving for his move to UNVRS is been generated by the same people who used his good name to their advantage in the nasty smear campaign against Hi and The Night League when it opened in 2017. Cox’s move to UNVRS completely undermines their argument and false narrative. Their words of hate and spite are as irrelevant as they are now.

Yes, of course, Cox is getting well-paid by Ushuaia Entertainment. Still, he is worth every penny, and it’s a small reward compared to the fees of those who sold out on their musical integrity years ago, charging obscene fees to push buttons and perform like circus clowns on a stage. Cox is the complete opposite of all that showmanship. He is the Obi-One Kenobi of DJs, utilising classic DJ skills, making it all about the music and unity on the dancefloor. He is the Yang to the Yin of UNVRS. The defection of all the other DJs to the new Hyperclub now makes sense.

Ushuaia Entertainment signing Carl Cox to UNVRS is akin to the French and Spanish fleets winning the Battle Of Trafalgar. This victory will confirm Franco Spanish clubbing supremacy in Ibiza for years to come. Allied with the creative, production and technical skills of the PIssenem Brothers, Cox has a professional crew to support him as he embarks on a new chapter in his thirty-year career. It is imperative for the island of Ibiza and the next generation of clubbers that Carl Cox’s legacy endures. His fifteen-week Sunday residency at UNVRS is one for the history books. Like those of us who were present for his 15-year residency at Space, our kids can tell their grandchildren that they were there for the opening season of his second coming at UNVRS.

We leave the final words to Carl Cox, who stated, “ I have a great opportunity to do something special” at UNVRS this year; for his fans and the music, don’t miss out. The force is strong in this one.

Tickets for the most anticipated party of the decade are on sale now.
