Pepe Rosello founder of Space Ibiza. |
Recent reports from Ibiza suggest, that the growing force that is Ushuaia, is interested in acquiring the well known Space Ibiza brand. The land that Space occupies in Playa Den Bossa, is owned by the powerful Matutes family, who control Ushuaia and many other business interests in Ibiza and abroad. Earlier this year, Ushuaia experimented with an unusual once off event, when it held a “historic collaboration” between Lucianos party at Ushuaia and Richie Hawtins Enter at Space. The event was called “Building Bridges With Friends” and it offered clubbers an opportunity to attend two great parties with the one ticket. The experiment was seen as a test run by Ushuaia to gauge the viability of its day time party continuing across the road in Space.
Space, was founded by, Pepe Rosello, in 1989 and is one of the worlds best clubs with a raft of awards to its name. However, the land that it is built on is owned by Ushuaia, who may have ambitious plans of their own for the location. The Space brand name is owned by Rosello’s company Stanca and one would hope that it remains in Ibiza. At this stage, very little it is known about the details of Ushuaias plans, or what will happen at Space after 2016. From a business point of view, a straightforward acquisition of the brand name would be the most logical thing to do, as it would mean business as usual at Space, but with the direction of a new owner. For now, its a case of “watch this space” or more aptly, the space in and around Playa Den Bossa, as developments, if any, begin to transpire in 2015.
