A teasing Instagram post by the Electronic Prince of Ibiza, Yann Pissenem, owner of the influential nightlife and entertainment company, The Night League, has led to speculation that he may open a new underground project on the island next season. The Frenchman who holds the record for the fastest demolition and construction of a building in Ibiza and most likely Spain, after he opened Hi on the site of Space during the 2016 Ibiza off season, has started work on his latest Balearic inspired project. The image of what looked like a Basement or service room, was posted on Pissenems Instagram account with the title “Work In Progress … for those who knows” and attracted positive comments from a range of high profile DJ and Industry names before it was removed. The hashtags #nopainnogain and #neverstop were tagged with the image.
While there were suggestions that the post was linked to Privilege, the area in my view, resembled an Ibiza Hotel basement with electric cabling and ducting pipes hanging from the ceiling. Pissenem would have access to hundreds of Hotels via his partner, Abel Matutes, owner of the Palladium Hotel Group, but my best guess would be that its a building located in Playa Den Bossa, most likely the Ushuaia Tower which already has an impressive rooftop refurbishment with splendid panoramic views of the Mediterranean sea, Dalt Villa, Salinas Salt plains and Ibiza Airport. The tower overlooks Yanns maiden project, The Ushuaia Beach Hotel, home to Ants, the party that heralded his arrival on the World stage.
While the image could relate to a number of different projects, in any country, my guess is that it could be a Sankeys styled underground club for an Ants carry on party on Saturday nights. Presently the unique freestyle of Black Coffee holds residency at Hi after Ants and with Claptone rumoured to be moving to Saturdays at Pacha and Elrow at Amnesia, Saturday nights are very much an EDM styled affair in Ibiza. A pure underground venue next to Ushuaia or Hi, would be an ideal fit for Pissenem to express his darker side, and with a talented team of professionals around him, both in design, booking and production, it would be an exciting development for the island if real. Right now all of the above is just speculation on my behalf, but knowing the drive, work ethic and ambition that has defined The Night League team to date, it would not be a surprise to see them striving for excellence once again.
