I had a lovely, relaxing, evening under the stars, at one of Ibiza’s best Japanese Sushi/Fusion restaurants. Food bursting with flavour, using 100% organic, garden grown ingredients, balanced to perfection. Attention to detail and the small, simple touches make Nagai special. Its genial hosts are a young couple, working hard to establish the restaurant as one of Ibiza’s best. An Italian lady with three generations of chefs in her family and a local Ibicenco who understands the simple, relaxed and natural vibe of the real Ibiza. Their Hospitality is warm and welcoming with an easy style but the restaurant has understated touches of individual design that makes it stand out from the ordinary. Wall art and clothing are on display in the living area of the old finca which has a fireplace with seating around it for cold evenings.
Im not a huge fan of Japanese food but its fusion menu enabled me to pick and mix from sushi to more traditional fried rice dishes. The homemade teriyaki crispy chicken is ideal for the less adventurous and children. The House special Nagai fried rice was the best I have ever tasted for the quality of ingredients and skill of cooking. There are two menus to choose from, The Japanese Menu and the Fusion one. I sampled the Sushi as a starter as it came out on an assorted platter which I allowed my hosts to choose for me. I think I am now a convert to Sushi and so happy to have tried it, especially when the staff took their time to help explain and tell you what it is. The owners family recipe strawberry Tiramisu for desert was heavenly.
The owners have extensively travelled the world and have brought back with them to Ibiza a taste for unpretentious, natural and ecologically friendly food. What they are doing in Ibiza is different and while I visited, there was live music playing in the cosy courtyard. Children are most welcome and the place has a lovely authentic feel about it. I will be returning to further my education in Sushi. You can check out the Nagai menu and location directions on their website.
