Ibiza is presently bucking the European recession trend, by recording a season high of 1,070,635 passengers passing through Ibiza Airport in July. It is the third highest monthly figure on record, after the 1,136,135 number that was registered in August 2011. The July figure is the highest ever recorded for the month of July and shows a 0.2% increase on the corresponding month last year. To the end of July, a total of 1.7million passengers, an increase of 0.2% were registered passing through Ibiza Airport.
A 91.9% Hotel Occupancy rate was recorded for July, 0.7% down on last year. While Ibiza is down 2.19% on total figures for May, June and July, Formentera witnessed a worrying 15.7% drop in its Hotel Occupancy rate for the same period. In Majorca rates do not expect to exceed 80% occupancy, even for the month of August, which Ibiza says will not dip below 90%. Last season Ibiza recorded a 95% room occupancy rate for August. In other travel news the Cruise Liner business reflected a growth of 4%, over the number of ships that docked in Ibiza port in 2011.
