Eddie Halliwell Surfs The Crowd At Amnesia |
We sent our reporter Rebecca Reeves to one of the most enduring and loved parties on the island of Ibiza, Cream at Amnesia on Thursday July 3. Still going strong after 20 years in Ibiza the line ups are as solid as ever. Amnesia comprises of two rooms, the Terrace at Cream pushes progressive house and electro, while the main room focuses on trance and this is where Rebecca sends us her report from.
We arrived at 12.30 to be greeted in the main room by Bryan Kearney. We are used to him playing fast but as he was on first we enjoyed some slower tunes, Eric Prydz & even a little techno before one of the trance anthems of 2014 – M.I.K.E.s Astrolab was blasted out to an appreciative crowd. At 1.30 it was the turn of Eddie Halliwell, he began with some current favorites such as Oceanlab’s Satellite and then Moguai’s Aciiid & then a classic – Basement Jaxx Where’s Your Head At before moving on to some faster tunes. It was energy all the way constantly turning down the sound to shout out at the crowd. Then, slowly taking off his shoes he climbed onto the decks, the crowd surged forward to catch him as he jumped off, crowd surfing in a climax to his performance.
Paul Van Dyk followed at 3am. We had classics such as Robert Miles – Children, Dogzillas – Nothing Without You and his own The Ocean. It was 2 hours of classic trance over all too soon. At 5am Ben Gold took over. Definitely a big name in the future as he treated us to much of his own material along with a great mash up of Gareth Emery’s Tokyo. It was a shame that at 6.40 time was called but the crowd was becoming thinned out by then. Headlining the terrace was Laidback Luke, surely technically one of the finest DJ’s in the world but tonight Amnesia belonged to Eddie Halliwell.
