The legend that is Erick Morillo, is set to make a welcome return to his old home of 15 years at Pacha this summer, when he lines out for the new Hot Since 82 curated Labyrinth party, which replaces Insane on Friday nights. In the late nineties and early noughties Morillo was King of Ibiza, packing out Wednesday nights at Pacha with his Subliminal Records residency which introduced names such as David Guetta, Steve Angello and Avicii to Ibiza. He was a much loved part of the Pacha family from 1997 to 2012, when in the aftermath of the Danny Whittle departure he walked, after his Subliminal party was replaced by Guy Gerber’s limp Wisdom Of The Glove. He was one of the first DJ’s to use a private jet to commute to his gigs and purchased a villa on the island in 2002.
Along with Morillo, Labyrinth will mix house legends such as David Morales, Sasha, Goldie and Pete Tong alongside respected techno headliners Adam Beyer, Dubfire, Heidi, Green Velvet and Maya Jane Coles. Daley Padley, aka Hot Since 82 is one of the rising stars on the Ibiza scene. The hard working DJ and promoter of clued in record label, Knee Deep In Sound, is known for spotting emerging talent in the deep tech genre, especially in the UK with the signing of acts like OC & Verde. Its participation was the highlight of Pacha’s Insane party last summer and the club moved swiftly to sign the label into a 20 week residency, dropping names such as MK, Luciano and Nic Fancuili. The label has been receiving plenty of support from another ex Pacha resident, Pete Tong, who will also join Labyrinth this season.
Padley seems to know what he is doing and at this early stage in his Ibiza career, one could liken him to Solomun when he first appeared with Dynamic at Sankeys in 2012. At that time Solomun was being compared to what Morillo was doing at Subliminal in 2001, so there seems to be a nice symmetry at play. To secure a 20 week residency at Pacha is no mean feat for a 34 year old Barnsley kid who has risen from relative obscurity playing local gigs on the Leeds circuit. His style is suited to Ibiza and he understands how the island works, having launched his Hot Since 82 name after plugging his Iphone playlist into to an afterparty sound systme which featured his then unreleased Let It Ride track that announced his arrival on the world stage. Labyrinth opens at Pacha on May 26 for a 20 week Friday residency at the famous cherried club.
