Elrow Ibiza 2025. UNVRS We Have A Problem.

After months of artistic teasers, the world waited with bated breath for the unveiling of the first official party at UNVRS, the brand-new hyperclub set to open in Ibiza next summer. With very little to go on, the clubbing industry was in the dark about what would be the first human-crewed mission into the Ibiza UNVRS. Then, like Poltergeist’s classic “They’re Here” scene, UNVRS and Elrow exploded onto a giant screen in Barcelona’s Phenomena Experience Cinema on October 18.

Over 500 guests, including key figures from the music industry, art, film and media, were invited to a private screening of a two-minute and forty-three-second “cinematic trailer” to launch the Elrow Residency at UNVRS. However, rather than delivering a Kubrick-inspired artistic masterpiece, the “2025 A Space Rowdessy” video resembled the Mel Brooks parody comedy Spaceballs.

Right from the opening scenes of the AI-driven cinematic trailer, it was an amateur production compared to the acclaimed marketing campaign that preceded it. The biggest blooper was the horizontal rather than vertical takeoff of the Elrow spaceship Apollo 25. The crew were preparing for liftoff with instruments to the front instead of above. While the video was produced with a fun element in mind, basic technical knowledge of the subject matter was lost in space, which was a real shame considering the quality of the marketing material that preceded it. The ego-massaging cinematic trailer was over two minutes too long. The video’s highlight was its last 43 seconds, which contained the Stargate sequence from 2001: A Space Odyssey.

The cinematic finale of the Elrow/UNVRS viral campaign played homage to some classic sci-fi movies, including 2001: A Space Odyssey, Interstellar, Star Wars and Apollo 13. Sadly, it ended up like a bedroom DJ mashup mix, overproduced using AI rather than real artistic technical expertise. This could reflect what awaits Elrow at UNVRS, and one would have to question the logic behind its move away from Amnesia. A key factor to the success of the Elrow party at Amnesia was its human interaction, tactile feel and family atmosphere. It was real, not digital, and a reflection of Spanish culture. Can it evolve and fit seamlessly into the modern digital, AI-driven theatre that awaits it at UNVRS?

It must overcome that leap into the unknown and the increased ticket price, which may not appeal to its traditional fan base. At Amnesia, Elrow was King, but at UNVRS, the party will be well down the pecking order at a club with some demanding diva DJs fighting for attention and position. On top of that, Elrow will be embarking on the maiden voyage of what could be a clubbing titanic. The first season of any new venue in Ibiza is filled with risk, snag lists, staffing issues, and operational problems linked to early business ventures on the island. It’s a logistical nightmare that requires experienced and professional hands to manage.

A New Hope

Another problem for Elrow is that the party is easily replicated at Amnesia. Elrow was never about the music but the experience, the atmosphere, and that famous Spanish Fiesta party vibe. That can be easily replaced with a more local theatrical group like the one employed at Space.

Amnesia could cleverly rebrand the packaging to look similar to Elrow, but with a more budget-friendly price, they could have something to go to war with on Saturday nights.  They own the night and its established location. If Amnesia is to compete with UNVRS, then its most effective weapons will be cost and customer experience, becoming the Ryanair of Ibiza Clubbing, appealing to a more value-sensitive clubber. If it undercuts on price and offers a better customer safety and personal experience than UNVRS, it could outmanoeuvre the financial and resource-devouring death star.

Amnesia must survive. If it musters a rebel alliance of classic and fresh Ibiza parties, it can compete with the dark side. All it requires is a Luke Skywalker X-Wing leader who can deliver the torpedo into the Death Star’s vent and destroy it. The Galactic Empire will be most vulnerable during the early construction of UNVRS, and Amnesia can exploit this weakness if an effective battle strategy is devised.

It could incorporate the old Space Club elements, building rooms and playing varied musical concepts. Battlehardned Electronic Generals like Carl Cox, Pepe Rosello, Sven Vath, Ferry Corsten, and Richie Hawtin would inspire the people to attend. Take away the bullshit and make it a real experience all about the music, and Amneisa would have a product to challenge UNVRS with.

Ibiza 2025. A New Hope is born.
